When people ask me where my skincare journey began, I always say… the garden.
There’s something sacred about walking outside, brushing your hand across a leafy green, or catching the scent of a just-picked lemon, knowing it’s destined for more than a salad. That’s how I see it. If it’s fresh, whole, and grown with love, your skin deserves it too.
That’s how Rum Creek Soaps came to life. From a place of healing, from hands in the soil, and from a deep belief that what you put on your skin should feel just as nourishing as what you put on your plate. Because real talk? Your skin eats too.
Why I Start in the Garden
I’m not about the gimmicks. I’m about what actually works.
Skincare shouldn’t feel like a mystery or a marketing trick. It should feel like love. That’s why I make every product with ingredients I’ve grown, touched, and trusted.
And I use a method called fluid hot process soapmaking—which basically means I cook my soaps low and slow, then swirl in the good stuff (like fresh lemon puree or oat milk) after the soap is fully made. That way, those nutrients don’t get destroyed by high heat. Your skin gets the real benefits, not just the scent or the label.
What’s Growing in My Garden (And How It Shapes My Skincare)
One of the most beautiful parts of creating skincare from my garden is that the ingredients change with the seasons—just like our skin does.
Right now, I’m harvesting:
-
Mesclun salad mix
-
Variety lettuces
-
Spinach
-
Kale, radishes, and carrots
These leafy greens and root veggies aren’t just packed with nutrients for your plate—they inspire some of my most gentle, skin-loving blends. Think calming, vitamin-rich nourishment for sensitive or dry skin.
Currently growing in the garden:
-
Tomatoes, hot and sweet peppers
-
Okra, rutabaga, celery
-
Butter beans, purple hull peas, acre peas
-
Zucchini, summer squash, and cucumbers
-
Marigolds and nasturtiums
Some of these are for eating. But many—especially the herbs, roots, and florals—end up in my formulations. If it’s rich in antioxidants, cooling to the skin, or known for its anti-inflammatory properties, I find a way to use it.
I don’t just choose ingredients because they sound good on a label—I use them because they do good for your skin. My process lets me preserve those powerful nutrients and turn them into something your skin can recognize and respond to.
Bar in the Spotlight: Lemon Puree Butter Bar

This bar right here? She’s the fresh-start queen.
Made with whole lemon puree from my garden, this soap is brightening, refreshing, and exactly what dull, tired skin needs. It's not harsh or stripping—it’s like a mini reset every time you use it.
Perfect for morning showers, post-sweat cleanups, or anytime your skin feels blah and needs a lift.
Why I Do This (And Why It Matters)
I didn’t grow up knowing about handmade soap or plant-based skincare. I learned it the hard way—through a health journey with my son, through trial and error, and through a deep craving for something that actually worked without all the toxic nonsense.
So now I share it with you. Because you deserve skincare that feels like care.
Skincare that doesn’t just sit on your skin but actually connects with it.
That brings your glow back—not just your skin, but your spirit too.
